Honor the Woodsons

As our university has grown over the last 14 years, so has our culture of philanthropy. Together, we can celebrate and sustain NC State's transformation.

NC State has undergone an extraordinary transformation since Chancellor Randy Woodson took the helm more than a decade ago.

We’ve restored iconic landmarks, named colleges, modernized our spaces, established one of the most successful Day of Giving traditions in higher education and grown the number of donors giving back each year by more than 80%.

How? Our culture of philanthropy — and that comes from the top.

Whether making gifts to highlight campus priorities or donating the entirety of a $1.5 million performance bonus for scholarships, Woodson and his wife, Susan, have led by example.

Philanthropy has helped drive our success during Woodson’s tenure. In that time:

  • Donors have helped our endowment grow by 300%, and continued growth allows us to better support students now and for years to come.
  • We tripled the number of students receiving scholarships in 10 years.
  • Fewer than 10% of tenured or tenure-track faculty held endowed positions in 2011; now, we have more than 200 such positions.

Now we have the opportunity to honor the Woodsons and continue NC State’s incredible momentum.

Celebrate our ongoing transformation, and Chancellor Woodson’s extraordinary leadership, with a gift to one of his top priorities:

Woodson Hall

The newly named home of integrative sciences will provide vital space for STEM teaching and research at NC State and serve as a catalyst for advancing the sciences. This building is our highest-priority capital project and will connect existing centers of excellence on campus and transform the Brickyard into a hub of scientific innovation and education.

Chancellor’s Transformational Endowment Fund

Unrestricted gifts have given Woodson the foundational support needed to direct resources where and when they are most needed. The Chancellor’s Transformational Endowment Fund helps fuel our momentum and our ongoing transformation by ensuring future leaders have those same funds, in perpetuity.

Other Highlighted Funds

  • Employee Dependent’s Tuition Scholarship: Established by the Woodsons, the Employee Dependent’s Tuition Scholarship provides support to the dependents of full-time NC State employees who have worked at the university for at least three years. Since 2015, we have granted nearly 1,100 renewable Employee Dependent’s Tuition Scholarship awards totaling more than $2 million.
  • Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative: Launched in 2020 and supported by the Woodsons, EOSI helps NC State close the gap between the cost of an education and what a student can afford. Since its creation, donors have helped 434 students and counting across all our colleges stay on track to success.
  • Arts NC State Enhancement Fund: At NC State, the arts are for everyone — and that sentiment has flourished under Chancellor Woodson’s leadership. Both Randy and Susan Woodson share a passion for the arts that led to, among other key highlights, the creation of public art on Centennial Campus.
  • Pack Essentials: Chancellor Woodson’s leadership has inspired the NC State community come together to help all students meet their basic needs. The Pack Essentials Fund supports and houses current resources, including the Feed the Pack Food Pantry and the Student Emergency Fund. Pack Essentials also helps develop new and expanded resources, programming and partnerships.
